This is Maddie's story, A dear client & friend. Her daughter who I've been lucky enough to know her whole life, she is truly an inspiration, not just to myself but to many children/adults that have suffered their whole life with Alopecia Areata. This is an autoimmune disease. Normally the immune system protects our body against infection & disease, but sadly in Maddie's case with her autoimmune disease, her bodies immune system mistakenly attacks some parts of her own body's. In Alopecia Areata, the immune system attacks all her hair follicles. Before anyone asks, Alopecia isn't curable. There is no cure out there for anyone who suffers. There are no drugs approved to treat it either. Doctors use medicine's approved for other diseases to help hair grow back. However, none of these treatments prevent new patches of hair loss or even guarantee hair growth.
Maddie was only 13yrs old when she decided to let me shave the rest of her hair, after 6 long hard months of hiding it with different filling products. This is when her consultant directed her towards "Little Princess Trust". Even with great support of her school, family & friends, remembering Maddie's growing up in a world where people would point/laugh & talk about her was very upsetting. Maddie, wanted to fit in like every child in her class & feel normal.
